Coos County Fairgrounds Museum

Introduction and Description

The Coos County Fairgrounds Museum provides display space to museums, organizations and individuals with interests in The Land of the Oregon Myrtle, that is the stretch of Southwest Oregon coast and inland valleys and mountains reaching from Brookings to Florence.  As part of its outreach program, the museum provides this online resource which combines the many functions of our museum.  These include:

  1. 1.Current Information on How to Participate.

  2. 2.A record of past and present exhibits and projects.

  3. 3.A celebration of the people and organizations who serve our community via this museum.

The Coos County Fairgrounds Museum is a cooperative venture. The museum facilities are provided by Cos County and the Coos County Fair which adopted the display facility in the Sprng of 2005, appointing Steve Means director.  The operation of the museum is sponsored by the Myrtle Point Lions Club a part of their Community Building Committee.

Donations to the improvement of the facilities and to sustain the operation of the museum are encouraged under the tax laws of the State of Oregon and the United States of America.

The Fairgrounds Museum serves as an extension to several area museums, most importantly to the Coos County Logging Museum of Myrtle Point which maintains the large model of the Gardner Mill and the supporting exhibit on Logging Then and Now.  Major participating museums also include The Coos Art Museum, The Coos Historical and Maritime Museum and The Bandon Historical Society Museum.  As you read through these pages you will get to know hundreds of people and dozens of organizations who support and participate in our efforts to enhance the cultural vitality of the Land of the Oregon Myrtle.
